LIVELY, FLAVOURFUL EXPERIENCES IN BILBAO
Beautifully located on the Bay of Biscay lies the seaport city of Bilbao, the economic and cultural centre of the Basque Country. During this three-day incentive trip you'll become acquainted with the architecture, gastronomy and traditions of this lively city.
After a gentle landing at the airport, designed by the famous Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, and a light lunch you'll become acquainted with Bilbao in an original manner. You'll explore the city with a scooter, the perfect way to get a first impression while the residents arouse from their traditional siesta. The ride ends at the world-famous Guggenheim Museum, located along the Nervión River. The magnificent building covered with titanium plates was designed by Frank Gehry. Inside the whimsically shaped walls you and your party can enjoy works of art by modern artists like Jeff Koons, Mark Rothko and Andy Warhol. The day ends with a walk in the historic city centre, where you'll absorb the local colour with a plate of ‘pintxos’ and a glass of wine.
The next day you and your party will take the bus to La Rioja. The famous wine region is only 90 minutes from Bilbao. You'll see the landscape change to green and hilly and you'll arrive in a true paradise for wine lovers. With mountains and the medieval city of Laguardia in the background, you'll visit two bodegas. Human hands make the wine in traditional ‘El Fabulista’ but the hands are replaced with state-of-the-art machines in modern ‘Baigorri’. Of course there's time for wine tasting and since the region is also famous for its gastronomy, lunch will consist of regional specialities. After returning to the hotel, you'll dine in the evening at an exquisite restaurant.
The third day starts with a guided tour in Casco Viejo, the old quarter of Bilbao. Traditional shops invite you to score a few original souvenirs before you get ready to go back to the airport.
